Áwet Woldegebriel, a refugee from Eritrea, founded Áwet New York in 2020. His tailor father taught him to “look out for people with greatness in their hands.” During the pandemic, the brand did just that, by creating its first collection to support local NYC garment workers. Now, they haver a permanent home on Bowery to highlight an ever-rotating collection of luxury designers of color. Their new store, located at Bond and Bowery, is the first of their kind in New York City.
