After noticing the lack of Portuguese cuisine in New York City, founder Joey Batista (a.k.a. Joey Bats) decided it was time to bring Portugal to NYC. The signature item, “Pastéis de Nata,” are Portugal’s most popular pastry and were created in Lisbon in the early 1800’s!
