Tile Bar

Tile Bar is an unpretentious East Village staple that has been open since the 1984 (back when the NYC bar scene was a lot different than what we see today.) There are no Instagramable floral motifs, neon quotes, or espresso martinis. There is cold beer, strong drinks, and a bartender that most likely knows your name. That’s right, Tile Bar differs from any other bar in New York City by preserving a piece of history and letting the bar remain unaltered for nearly 40 years. Only one aesthetic change has been made – a sign listing the name East Village locals have given us: “Tile Bar.” After several calls, pages, and texts, (even letters!) were made attempting to find the bar with no name, we decided on one crisp Saturday night to let it be changed. For many years we were known as WCOU Bar, named after our iconic neon clock nestled in a cozy back wall. However, the unique (and only) identifier of tiles on the entrance door gave East Village locals a reason to name us Tile Bar – and we conceded! May your beer be cold and your shots strong. Welcome to Tile Bar. If you’re reading this right now….you’ve found something special!
